1 injured, 6 displaced following apartment fire in west Phoenix

PHOENIX — One person was injured and six residents have been displaced following an apartment fire in west Phoenix on early Saturday morning, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Firefighters responded to a call of heavy smoke coming from the balcony of the second floor of the apartment, according to the Phoenix Fire.

Phoenix Fire said firefighters managed to clear the apartments adjacent to the burning building and prevented the fire from spreading.

One patient was treated for smoke inhalation but declined to be transported to a local hospital.

The six residents that have been displaced are working with Phoenix Fire Crisis response units, according to Phoenix Fire.

The American Red Cross also said in an email that it will be working with the displaced residents as well.

No firefighters were injured during the incident, according to Phoenix Fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

No other information was made immediately available.
