West Valley hospital completes cath lab renovations, advances cardiac care

PHOENIX — Hospital group Abrazo Health announced Thursday the completed renovation of two catheterization (“cath”) labs at its West Valley campus that will improve both “patient outcomes and procedural efficiency” in cardiac care, according to a press release.

The $3 million revitalization project at Abrazo West Campus, which began in 2023, will most critically enhance the cath labs with the installation of a Phillips Azurion C Arm, a mounted imaging tool which will allow medical personnel to view 2D and 3D images of their patients.

The newly added technology will enable the acute-care hospital located at Litchfield and McDowell roads to treat patients more holistically and effectively, whether they are dealing with heart failure, vascular disease or needing a stent placement.

Dr. Richard Pham, the director of cardiology at Abrazo West Campus, said the two cath labs have already upped the number of their procedures by 58% since 2022. With the Phillips Azurion C Arm, Pham explained it should lead to “safer” cardiac care and less invasive procedures for faster recovery times.

What are other upgrades to the West Valley hospital?

A few other significant upgrades to the Abrazo Health campus are new HD TV monitors, operating tables and “advanced lighting.”

“Abrazo West Campus is committed to continued investment in advanced technology that helps bring access to high acuity care right here in the West Valley,” Abrazo West Campus CEO Hans Driessnack said in the press release. “This cath lab upgrade is the latest iteration of this commitment, and we are excited to see the positive impact it has for the community in the hands of our skilled medical staff and dedicated team members.”

Abrazo West Campus is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. It has earned accreditation for its cardiac cath lab from the American College of Cardiology.
