AZ Political Podcast: Immigration lawyer Sal Macias discusses Biden’s executive action at border

Jun 7, 2024, 4:35 AM | Updated: 8:04 am

PHOENIX — As the border captured almost all the major political headlines this week, I decided to have a nonpolitical guest on the AZ Political Podcast who somehow makes total sense.

Salvador Macias is an immigration lawyer and an immigrant — an immigrant with a legal status that gives him a pretty unique perspective (at least among lawyers): He’s a DACA recipient who was brought to Arizona as a 4-year-old.

Sal and I talk about how President Joe Biden’s executive action regarding asylum claims changes things at the border (spoiler alert: not much!); as well as how the Secure The Border Act ballot referendum passing could affect how he practices immigration law in Arizona.

Plus, some surprising thoughts on how not all immigrants — nor all Hispanics and Latinos — feel the same about immigration and border issues.
