North Phoenix elementary school breaks ground on renovations

PHOENIX — An extreme makeover is underway at Rose Lane Elementary School after crews broke ground on campus renovations on Tuesday.

The school is part of the Madison Elementary School District and is located near 12th Street and Rose Lane.

More than 600 students attend the elementary school, which has a focus on visual and performing arts. The school serves students from preschool through fourth grade.

The school renovation was funded by a voter-approved 2023 bond.

The campus will be completed in phases that will feature a more than 47,600-square-foot, two-story building with 28 classrooms, a dance studio, music room and a library.

A nearly 9,000-square-foot multipurpose performing arts venue will serve as a gym, cafeteria and indoor-outdoor stage that becomes an exterior amphitheater.

Renovations will include separate kindergarten and physical education buildings. A new preschool area will be added to support the school’s before-and after-school care programs.

The new campus will have baseball and softball fields, more parking and additional space for staff training and wellness.

The revamped school project plans to be completed in time for the 2027-28 school year.

Grace Design Studios and McCarthy Building Companies Inc. are in charge of the design and architecture.
