Arizona State University under federal investigation for potentially illegal DEI policies

The U.S. Justice Department announced Wednesday it is investigating Arizona State University over practices relating to diversity, equity and inclusion — aka DEI.

The department’s Civil Rights Division is looking into viral videos that allegedly show ASU students being denied equal treatment based on their race or national origin.

ASU is also accused of trying to hide the violations from federal authorities.

“The United States is committed to keeping universities free of unlawful discrimination — especially when they try to hide illegal conduct to avoid oversight and compliance,” Civil Rights Division Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said in a news release.

The investigation will determine if ASU implemented DEI policies that illegally discriminate against students in areas such as admissions, recruitment, scholarships and tutoring.

The school receives millions of dollars in U.S. government support each year and risks losing funding if it doesn’t comply with federal regulations.

ASU is denying the accusations.

The university “complies with federal law and does not discriminate in admissions,” said a spokesperson in a statement to KTAR News 92.3 FM.

ASU also said any secret video recordings of employees will not be commented on because the individuals are not authorized to speak on behalf of the organization.
