2026 Arizona education bills target school safety, superintendent salary transparency

PHOENIX – Two new education bills are on the table for the upcoming session of the Arizona Legislature, focusing on accountability and school safety.

The first bill, HB 2076, introduces the FASTER Saves Lives Act, which would create a framework that allows schools to train designated employees for emergency medical and trauma response.

Republican state Rep. Selina Bliss, who introduced the bill, said in a statement it “gives schools the option to prepare staff to act immediately when an emergency occurs.” Bliss also cited emergency response delays as a possibility that could lead to death.

The optional training would include hemorrhage control, tourniquet placement, airway support, chest injury stabilization as well as coordination with first responders.

Education bill would require disclosure of school officials’ employee contracts

The second education bill, HB 2075, was introduced by Republican Rep. David Livingston. It would require each Arizona school district’s governing board to turn in copies of employee contracts, salaries and benefits for every superintendent, assistant superintendent, associate superintendent and chief financial officer to the Arizona Department of Education.

The contracts would also have to be posted on the district’s website and would not be permitted to be removed until the person has been out of that role for five years.

The upcoming legislative session begins on Jan. 12, 2026.
