Residents in the West Valley have long awaited the arrival of a Whole Foods. Now it looks like they’re getting two stores.

The city of Surprise has received a building permit application for the construction of a 35,000 square-foot building for future use as a Whole Foods Market, according to documents obtained by the Phoenix Business Journal.

The new store is slated to be built at the southeast corner of Waddell Road and Sarival Avenue, across the street from a Costco.

The application with Surprise is intended to support the “permitting of the core and shell architecture and includes structural design as well as basic mechanical, plumbing and electrical contributions to capture the infrastructure necessary for the future build-out of the store by others,” according to the documents.

The news comes less than two weeks after the Business Journal reported that the grocer is also opening a new location in Glendale.
