Walmart announces $250K grant to boost workforce development opportunities in Arizona

In honor of Walmart Academy’s 10-year anniversary, the company announced a $250,000 grant to aid driving workforce development opportunities in Arizona.

The grant is being given to the Center for the Future of Arizona to expand the workforce opportunities offered in the Greater Phoenix area.

The center will partner the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity, Arizona Department of Economic Security, Maricopa Community College District, Greater Phoenix Chamber, Phoenix’s Arizona@Work and Maricopa County’s Arizona@Work in the effort.

Walmart selected the Valley for the grant due to its strong workforce system and how connected it is to employers, educators and organizations. The organization also cited the way the system is informed by labor market data and enhanced by technology.

Over the next five years, the company and its foundation will try to help workers prepare for and move into high-quality career opportunities.

Walmart Academy is one of the world’s largest private training programs and has seen four million trainings be completed since 2016. It does not charge employees for the retail skills, leadership fundamentals and operational expertise they are taught.

The Academy’s Valley location is in Gilbert.
