Taiwan to open Phoenix cultural office amid TSMC growth

Taiwan’s government announced it will open a representative office in Phoenix to strengthen ties with Arizona and support growing Taiwanese investment in the region.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Phoenix will function much like a consulate, helping Taiwanese businesses, nationals and members of the Taiwanese community in Arizona and New Mexico, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Preparations for the office are underway.

The announcement comes as metro Phoenix grows as a semiconductor hub, with TSMC moving ahead on its north Phoenix chipmaking campus and recently pledging an added $100 billion for U.S. chip development.

Taiwan said the office will promote cooperation with state and local governments on trade, technology, supply chains, education and cultural exchanges.

Once opened, it will be Taiwan’s 14th office in the U.S.
