Australian chip company Syenta opens first US location in Tempe, promises 200 jobs

PHOENIX — An Australian technology company that makes tools for building faster computer chips announced Tuesday it is opening its first U.S. location in Tempe, bringing 200 high-skilled jobs to the region.

Syenta, which specializes in the way chips are connected and assembled inside advanced computing systems, said its new 3,500-square-foot facility at Arizona State University’s Research Park will serve as a base for working with American chipmakers and expanding its presence in the U.S. market.

Demand for more powerful chips surges, driven largely by AI

One of the biggest obstacles to building faster AI systems is how the chips are wired together. It is a process known as advanced packaging.

According to the technology company, its technology can achieve wiring densities that were previously possible only in the world’s most sophisticated chip factories.

“Tempe is a natural choice for our first U.S. operations,” Syenta CEO and founder Jekaterina Viktorova said in a news release. “The city offers world-class talent, research collaboration and an ecosystem that allows us to scale our advanced packaging technology in support of AI system performance worldwide.”

Syenta’s move is being touted as the latest example of the Valley’s position as the center of the U.S. semiconductor industry.

“By co-locating at the ASU Research Park, Syenta will work with ASU to leverage faculty expertise and state-of-the-art facilities for the next generation of AI technology,” ASU Executive Director of Economic Development Neil Calfee said.

The company noted that they’re actively hiring for the new Tempe location. There are currently six job openings posted on their website.
