Mesa Padel Club set to open in downtown district this week

PHOENIX — The Mesa Padel Club is set to open this week in the city’s downtown district with a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration.

The club, which is located near Country Club Drive and Main Street, joins a wave of padel spots that are opening around the East Valley.

Padel, which combines elements of tennis and squash, is a sport typically associated with the “rich” and “famous,” being known for its exclusivity, according to a news release from Mesa Padel Club. Founder Jeroen Meefout is trying to change that narrative by making the sport more accessible.

In fact, the club’s tagline is “a space where people can move, connect and belong.”

The padel spot will host an intimate ribbon cutting on Thursday at 5 p.m. However, that will be followed a few days later by the club’s grand opening on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The goal of the event is to have everyone hold a racket in their hands and play. It will also feature clinics, vendors, giveaways, a tournament, a DJ and a matcha cart.

The club is open air and has four Padel Galis courts that are supposed to be optimal for performance and comfort.

It also has an onsite pro shop where attendees can get the latest padel gear as well as rent rackets and balls. For those not participating in a match, there is a lounge area where community members can relax and connect with one another.

In addition, the club has group lessons, private lessons and youth programming.

The padel spot does offer memberships, but they are not required to play on the courts. However, there is a fee for each player to play on the courts.
