$10M expansion of Mekong Plaza in Mesa Asian District completed

PHOENIX — Mesa’s Asian District Mekong Plaza, which is home to Asian grocers and retailers, recently completely a $10 million expansion project that will add about 200 jobs, according to a press release.

Twelve new businesses and 32,000 square feet have been added to the business arena located along Dobson Road and Main Street, including restaurants Haidilao Hot Pot and Udon Shin.

District 3 councilmember Francisco Heredia said the Asian District will continue to be the “cultural and economic destination in Mesa.”

“This project strengthens our local economy, provides new opportunities for small businesses and celebrates the vibrant diversity that defines our community,” Heredia said.

The expanded Mekong Plaza, which was first announced in 2022, will be more than 132,000 square feet and represent the community’s “next chapter of growth.”

Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman said the “strong community partnerships” make the city a great place to live and renown Chinese and Japanese staples will only enhance it.

The plaza features more than 100 specialty shops and is directly accessible via Valley Metro light rail and bus routes.
