Arizona health care CEO sentenced to 14 years in prison

Kevin Lamorris McKenzie faces 14 years in federal prison over his involvement as the CEO of an Arizona company that defrauded millions of dollars from an Indian Tribal Organization, through which he set himself up with a lavish lifestyle with luxury vehicles and private jet flights.

McKenzie, 49, was sentenced on Oct. 16 by U.S. District Judge Scott H. Rash to 14 years in prison, to be served concurrently with an additional five-year sentence. McKenzie had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and embezzlement. Upon his release from prison, he will be placed on probation for 36 months, according to the sentencing document.

According to court documents, from 2015 through 2023, McKenzie, first as chief operating officer and then in 2016 as CEO of Apache Behavioral Health Services (ABHS) in Tucson, engaged in a scheme to defraud millions of dollars from ABHS and the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
