New Fry’s Marketplace grocery store set to open in West Valley on Halloween

PHOENIX – West Valley shoppers will get a treat on Halloween when a new Fry’s Food Store location opens in Surprise.

The 124,700-square-foot grocery store on the southwest corner of Cactus Road and Sarival Avenue, just east of Loop 303, will welcome its first customers after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m.

The first 200 guests in line will receive $30 Fry’s gift cards as part of a daylong celebration.

The lineup of festivities includes live performances from a local high school, a KNIX radio station booth from 7 to 9 a.m., a meet-and-greet opportunity with NASCAR driver Ryan Preece from 10 to 11 a.m. and a trunk-or-treat Halloween event from 1 to 4 p.m.

“We’re thrilled to open our new Fry’s Marketplace in Surprise and to serve the needs of this vibrant community,” store manager Sam Affronti said in a press release. “Our store features a wide range of modern amenities designed to make shopping more convenient and enjoyable. My team and I can’t wait to welcome everyone and celebrate this exciting new beginning.”

New West Valley Fry’s offering gas discount on opening weekend

The new supermarket will feature a Murray’s Cheese shop, a sushi station, a Starbucks coffee counter, a pharmacy with drive-thru service, an 18-pump fuel center and more.

As part of the grand opening, gas customers with registered VIP loyalty cards can save an extra 20 cents per gallon Friday-Sunday. Additionally, the first 100 cars in line at 7 a.m. Saturday will receive $25 gas vouchers redeemable at the event.

Tolleson-based Fry’s Food Stores, a division of Kroger, operates about 130 supermarkets across Arizona and is one of the state’s largest employers.

The new Surprise store, which will have daily operating hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., is one of three recent or planned additions to the company’s West Valley presence. The first was a Fry’s Marketplace that opened in late August at Broadway and Miller roads in Buckeye.

Plans are also underway for a store that will anchor the commercial section of the Hermosa Ranch Technology Campus at Avondale Boulevard and Lower Buckeye Road in Avondale.
