DoorDash launches Waymo delivery service in metro Phoenix

PHOENIX — Metro Phoenix residents can now tap DoorDash not just for takeout, but for autonomous grocery delivery, thanks to the food delivery service’s partnership with Waymo.

Customers can skip delivery drivers and keep everything touch-free by selecting the standard delivery option at participating DashMart locations. DashMart is DoorDash’s chain of convenience, grocery and retail stores.

A Monday announcement from the company said DoorDash officials hope to eventually include local businesses in the program.

How will the DoorDash, Waymo delivery service work?

When placing an order, customers in the 315-square-mile service area — which covers parts of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler — will have the option to choose autonomous vehicle delivery.

If paired with a self‑driving car, they can use the DoorDash app to securely unlock the trunk and collect their items.

Waymo also announced special promotions for DashPass members using its ridesharing service.

The company, which began as Google’s self‑driving car project, has operated in the East Valley since 2017, introduced fully autonomous public rides in 2020, and expanded robotaxi service to metro Phoenix in October 2023.

The autonomous driving technology company also announced a similar partnership with Uber Eats in April 2024.
