Contractor to lay off multiple workers at Chandler Intel facility

A Virginia-based government and commercial services contractor is laying off nearly three dozen workers at Intel’s East Valley plant as part of a contract discontinuation that it says was initiated by the chip giant.

Amentum Holdings Inc. on Aug. 21 filed a WARN — or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification — with Arizona’s Department of Economic Security stating it will cut 29 jobs at Intel’s Chandler campus at 5000 W. Chandler Boulevard. The campus is about 1.5 miles west of Intel’s main Ocotillo fab site.

Arizona companies with 100 or more employees are typically required to file WARN letters ahead of mass layoffs or plant closings, although they can also be filed when contract work isn’t renewed.

The WARN letter indicates Intel notified Amentum that it awarded a “REWS (FOH) 4.0 IFM” contract previously held by Amentum to another contractor.

Amentum’s contract with Intel is slated to expire on Oct. 19, according to the WARN letter.
