PHOENIX — Fans of classic video games such as “Pong” and “Asteroids,” could soon get to feel like they are stepping inside the games, as new renderings have been released of the long-awaited Atari Hotel that will be built in downtown Phoenix.
The hotel was initially announced in 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. Construction is now expected to begin in late 2026 with a planned opening in 2028, according to Atari Hotels and Phoenix-based commercial real estate company Intersection Development, which are partnering on the project.
The hotel will be built at Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street, near downtown Phoenix’s Roosevelt Row.
It will be the first-ever Atari Hotel, and developers are considering additional cities, including Denver, as future locations.
Details of Atari Hotel coming to downtown Phoenix
The hotel is being designed by European architecture studio Räkkhaus and is inspired by Atari’s catalogue of video games, along with games from other brands, such as “Tron,” “Blade Runner” and “Tetris.”
“Our goal was to fuse architecture with interaction — not themed design, but pure spatial innovation,” Räkkhaus Creative Director Zac Cohen said in a press release. “A tower defined by motion, responsive surfaces and a frame that glows with its own internal logic.”
The hotel will feature 19 suites and 72 rooms, a nod to 1972, the year Atari was founded. There will also be a 4,000-square-foot penthouse with a private pool, spa and sun deck.
The company’s logo will also be featured on the exterior of the hotel, extending along the building’s facade.
Additionally, there will be a 2,000-person concert and event center, a 10,000-square-foot sports book and an esports venue.
