Coffee chain 7 Brew wins auction for shuttered Salad and Go sites, beating Dutch Bros

7 Brew made the winning bid for 73 former Salad and Go locations in a bankruptcy auction Monday.

The Arkansas-based drive-thru coffee chain outbid Tempe-based Dutch Bros for 73 locations, according to a notice filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Of those, 41 are in Arizona.

The sale price was $143.18 million, beating Dutch Bros.’ $105 million offer. Dutch Bros chose not to raise its bid and will act as a backup in case the 7 Brew deal falls through.

7 Brew currently has three Arizona locations – two in Tucson and one in Queen Creek.

Dutch Bros CEO Christine Barone said the company remains focused on growth but wasn’t willing to go higher.

“We’ve always been disciplined in how we allocate capital,” Barone said in a statement to the Phoenix Business Journal. “While we have chosen not to increase our original offer, we remain engaged in the process and will continue to evaluate opportunities where the total investment provides the appropriate return.”

A hearing on the sale is scheduled for Sept. 21 in a Texas federal court.

Salad and Go filed for Chapter 11 protection Aug. 4 and closed its 70 remaining stores the next day. The Tempe-based chain had more than 140 leases it hoped to sell off.
