Actor John Malkovich recreates iconic, diverse photographs

Quirky actor John Malkovich is no stranger to transforming his appearance for the dozens of roles he has landed in film and television over the years.

However, his latest project just might be his greatest display of versatility yet.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the actor — who has had memorable roles in everything from “Empire of the Sun” to “Of Mice and Men” to, of course, “Being John Malkovich” — teamed up with photographer Sandro Miller to recreate some of the most prevalent, iconic photographs seen time and time again in American society.

The portrait series is called “Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to Photographic Masters,” and it will be showcased at the Catherine Edleman Gallery in Chicago from Nov. 7 to Jan. 15.

Other than to show audiences how Malkovich can recreate just about any pose, Miller says the project’s intent is to honor the photographers who have influenced him.

Some of the photos are might be reaching a little too far — in regards to Malkovich trying to look like the subject in question — but others are right on the money, and you’d be forgiven if you mistook Miller’s version for the original.

Below is just a sampling of the Miller-Malkovich portrait series. Not included are ones that recreate famous snapshots of Marilyn Monroe and of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Search for those ones at your own risk.
