PHOENIX — A local actress will have a bit of a homecoming this week as the Broadway show “42nd Street” opens at a Phoenix-area auditorium.
“It’s one of my dream shows,” Emily Blake Anderson said. “It’s so much fun to do. To get to come home to Arizona and perform in Tempe is such a dream come true.”
Anderson, who is part of the dancing ensemble in the cast, grew up in Scottsdale. She’s been dancing since she was 3 and took up singing and acting while in college.
She saw her first musical at Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium, where she will perform this week.
Though she doesn’t have a starring role in “42nd Street,” it is her first touring production and she’s excited about it.
“We make up the kids in the chorus of the show,” she said. “We do all the big dance numbers. There’s a lot of tap [dancing], a lot of jazz dance and singing. It’s fun.”
Anderson described “42nd Street” as a “quintessential, backstage old-fashioned musical.” The story is set in the depression and focuses on the production of a theater show.
The show will be at Gammage through Sunday. Tickets are available online for all eight shows.
