PHOENIX — A longtime Phoenix ice cream company is hoping the generosity of online donors is enough to boost its business into the future.

Mary Coyle ice cream, which opened in 1951, shut its doors late last year as sales dwindled. It seemed the Valley staple was gone for good.

However, owner Mike Stoffey is making a bid to bring treats to the populace. He hopes to raise enough money through an online fundraiser to purchase a food truck and take his ice cream on the road.

On the donation page, Stoffey said he hopes to raise $45,000 to buy a used truck and fit it with freezers. He hopes to have things rolling by Memorial Day.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Stoffey had raised more than $2,000.

Regardless if the Kickstarter is successful, Stoffey plans to use his own money to rent a small brick-and-mortar location that would serve as a production facility for ice cream. It may have a small parlor attached.

We want to hear from you.
