The Pentagon’s greatest new weapon won’t be put into use for four more years.
The Daily Beast reports the nearly $400 billion Joint Strike Fighter or F-35 is operational but can’t be used until 2019. Why?
The jet’s software does not yet have the ability to shoot its 25mm cannon. But even when the jet will be able to shoot its gun, the F-35 barely carries enough ammunition to make the weapon useful.
There one be more than one F-35 firing in a few years. The Defense Department is hoping to purchase 2,443 in three versions, says the Daily Beast. This will help to modernize the country’s tactical fighter fleet.
