Woman dies in hit-and-run in west Phoenix

PHOENIX — A woman crossing a street was struck by a car and killed early Friday morning on the city’s west side.

Phoenix Police took the driver, who fled the scene, into custody a short while later.

A police spokesman said the car’s driver hit the woman near McDowell Road and 52nd Avenue, after maneuvering around a car that had stopped to allow the woman to pass. She was not in a crosswalk.

The woman was pronounced dead at a hospital.
