1 dead in car accident on Interstate 17 in northern Arizona

At least one person died in a freeway accident in northern Arizona early Friday.

The Department of Public Safety said a car hit a pedestrian on southbound Interstate 17 near Camp Verde around 5 a.m.

Lanes were closed and a detour was directing traffic through town, according to the state transportation department. The freeway was reopened shortly before 8:30 a.m.
