The Arizona Board of Regents voted to approve Arizona State University’s request to buy 0.8 acres of land to expand the downtown Phoenix campus.

The State Press reports that the land is selling for $4.6 million and is located near the Sun Devil Fitness Center and the Civic Space Park.

“The downtown (Phoenix) campus continues to grow, and to meet the projected growth needs of the campus, we needed a little bit more land,” Patrick Panetta, director of project management in ASU’s real estate department said.

“So, this was an opportunity, it was for sale and so we went (to the regents) to request approval to purchase it.”

Panetta said they are not sure about what the land will be used for and just knew that they needed more land to meet the “projected space needs” for the campus. The downtown campus is known for its lack of space.

There is not a current date set for construction.
