PHOENIX– An Arizona State legislator thinks drones may be getting too nosy, and he wants to do something about it.

Rep. Sonny Borrelli (R-Lake Havasu City) has introduced a bill that would make it illegal for anyone to use an unmanned aircraft, or drone … to “intentionally photograph, electronically record, collect information, conduct surveillance, or gather evidence from private or commercial property” in Arizona.

“People are flying drones around private property and even in public display areas where they got cameras on them and there’s a lot of concerns with that, and the cities are looking for solutions,” Borrelli said.

Included in House Bill 2073 is protection for refineries, some manufacturing facilities, and nuclear power plants.

A violation could result in a felony.

Borrelli said it all comes down to basic rights.

“We want to protect property rights and everybody’s rights to privacy.”
