Main Street Minute: Valley added nearly 8,000 construction jobs in past year

• Software company Axway Inc. Plans on hiring 50 staffers in the Valley by early 2016. The Phoenix Business Journal reports positions include technical and digital marketing, software developers, human resources and accounting and management. Axway employs 270 at its Phoenix headquarters.

• The Valley is adding lots of construction jobs. Numbers from the Associated General Contractors show nearly 8,000 jobs were added over the past year. Only Denver, New York and Orange County, California, added more jobs in construction during that same time.

• The Arizona Department of Transportation has decided who will design, build and maintain a new stretch of the South Mountain freeway. In a nearly $2 billion dollar deal, key members of the development team include Fluor Enterprises, Granite Construction and Ames Construction, with Parsons Brinckerhoff as the lead designer. The project is set to get underway next summer.
