‘Smokey and The Bandit’ Pontiac Trans Am featured in Barrett-Jackson auction

Actor Burt Reynolds will help auction off a rare Pontiac Trans Am that was featured in the 1977 film “Smokey and the Bandit.”

The vehicle, which will be autographed by Reynolds, will be bid upon during the January Barrett-Jackson auto auction in Scottsdale.

The Firebird Trans Am was recently restored by the McLaughlin Museum. While the car didn’t appear in the movie, it was Universal Studios’ promotional vehicle. Four other Pontiacs like it were used in the filming of the movie, but all were damaged beyond repair, leaving this car as the only remaining one.

“Smokey and the Bandit” won’t be the only movie represented in the auto auction.

A 1992 Peterbilt semi-truck designed to play the role of Optimus Prime from the “Transformers” movies. Also from that series, the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro that was the character Bumblebee will be auctioned. The Camaro is currently owned by Transformers director Michael Bay, who will autograph the car before it is sold at auction.
