A Phoenix family is dealing with an unfortunate situation after a Christmas Eve fire.
The family of four used their fireplace for the first time this year and put out the fire before going to bed, said Captain Ardell Deliz with the Phoenix Fire Department. One of the teenage children in the home noticed smoke a few hours later and awoke family members as the smoke detectors began to sound.
Firefighters arrived and entered the smoke-filled home near 30th Street and Hartford Avenue. They determined that the heat was coming from the floor they were standing on. The bulk of the fire was found in the crawl space and in the sub floor.
Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire. No one was injured.
