PHOENIX — Looking to hit the jackpot heading into the new year? No worries, the Arizona Lottery’s Powerball has rolled again on Wednesday to reach $255 million, just one day before Christmas.

Rolling for the fourteenth time since Nov. 7, the Powerball jackpot has reached a whopping $255 million for the next draw. Arizona Lottery Executive Director Tony Bouie said the increased jackpot amount will benefit state programs due to the increased number of people who are buying tickets.

“You can feel the excitement growing as players buy tickets and dream about what they could do with $255 million,” he said in a recent press release. “This is good news for the state programs that receive Lottery proceeds because more players and bigger jackpots result in even more dollars going back to support important community programs statewide.”

Winning numbers for the Powerball will be drawn at 9 p.m. on Saturday. Bouie said in order to be eligible for the multi-million dollar jackpot, all tickets must be purchased by 7:59 p.m. on Saturday.

The last Powerball drawing was on Dec. 19, which saw the highest payout of $50,000. The $227 million jackpot is the highest for the Powerball since September.

For that lucky person or people who find themselves in possession of the winning ticket, they must be 21 or older to claim their prize within 180 days from the drawing date at an Arizona Lottery office or by mail.
