PHOENIX — A hiker who fell to her death while hiking on a popular landmark near Sedona has been identified, Yavapai County officials said.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said Krista Hower, 28, apparently fell to her death from Bell Rock, about five miles south of Sedona on Monday.
Sheriff’s officials received a 911 call about 3:30 p.m. from Hower, who said she was trying to climb down the mountain and was stuck about one-third of the way down.
A rescue team and helicopter were sent out to help Hower.
Officials began to rappel to her position about 6 p.m. When they reached her last known location, searchers spotted her body about 125 feet further down.
Officials said they last heard from the hiker about 5:30 p.m. She said she was doing OK but was getting cold.
Her body was removed Tuesday.
