PHOENIX — Republican president candidate Donald Trump may return to Phoenix after the city confirmed Thursday that his campaign is seeking venues for an event.

Phoenix Convention Center spokesperson Cynthia Weaver said Trump’s team had been in touch regarding a second event. The mogul held an event at the same venue in July.

Mayor Greg Stanton said in a statement he hopes Trump’s campaign opts for somewhere else.

“I hope that Donald Trump does not bring his hateful message of division and intolerance back to Phoenix,” the statement read. “He has a First Amendment right to spew vile rhetoric, but his brand of increasingly overt racism is in complete contrast to our values as a city.”

Weaver added the campaign is looking at other locations and has not signed a contract as of Thursday afternoon.

It is unclear when the event would be held, but the Arizona Republic reported the potential date is Dec. 16, one day after the Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas.

At his last campaign stop in Phoenix, Trump touched on a myriad of topics, including immigration, his relationship with Mexico natives and the Islamic State, among other talking points. At the time, he was raising eyebrows over his comments concerning Mexican immigrants, whom Trump claimed entered the country illegally and are drug smugglers and rapists.

Since his July visit, however, Trump has garnered plenty more headlines with some contentious statement. His latest concerned his proposal to ban Muslim immigrants that has been met with worldwide criticism.

“Somebody in this country has to say what’s right,” Trump said in an interview with ABC taped last week. “It’s short-term. Let our country get its act together.”
