PHOENIX — Freeway traffic in Phoenix’s West Valley will likely be more crowded Thursday than the pile of football players after a run up the middle.

The Arizona Cardinals are set to take on the Minnesota Vikings in a sold-out game with playoff implications at 6:25 p.m., right in the middle of rush hour. Game traffic combined with the normal urge to get home will likely have roadways extra backed up.

Westbound Interstate 10 and the Loop 101 in both directions are expected to be the most impacted, along with streets near University of Phoenix Stadium near 91st Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

The Glendale Police Department said fans should plan on arriving in the stadium area at least one hour before kickoff.

The team is planning to open parking lots at 2:30 p.m. for tailgating purposes. About a dozen very passionate fans arrived as early as 4:30 a.m.

“It’s going to be a day-long event,” Cardinals fan Erik Polansky said. “We have a lot of stuff going on.”
