PHOENIX — A suburban Phoenix English instructor was named the Arizona Educational Foundation’s 2016 Arizona Teacher of the Year.

Christine Marsh has been teaching at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale for over 23 years, and told the Arizona Education News Service she focuses on her students and makes, “sure that every single student feels valued and special.”

Marsh, who teaches Advanced Placement English, accepted the award during the annual luncheon, attended by more than 600 educators, elected officials and business leaders.

As part of her award, the foundation said Marsh will have the opportunity to meet President Obama, compete for the title of National Teacher of the Year and attend international space camp in Huntsville, Ala.

Other awards include a $15,000 cash award and a scholarship for an advanced degree from Argosy University.

The foundation also named four “Ambassadors for Excellence” who will work with Marsh, “as spokespersons for their profession.”

The ambassadors include instructors from the Maricopa Unified, Kyrene and Paradise Valley school districts.
