PHOENIX — A Scottsdale middle-school teacher has awakened from a coma after she was run down by a speeding car.

Maureen Brown, an eighth-grade science teacher, was crossing 124th Street and Shea Boulevard on Oct. 25 when she was hit by a car, according to a GoFundMe account created by Brown’s boyfriend, Will Souza.

Brown, 33, had undergone “more than a dozen major life saving surgeries,” according to Souza.

Local TV news reported Brown and Souza were picking out wedding rings shortly before the hit-and-run.

Police said the driver sped off after the accident, and that they have no leads.

Silent Witness was offering up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest.

The online account has raised over $15,000 toward Brown’s medical bills and to support her during her recovery.

Brown works at Cocopah Middle School.
