PHOENIX — Arizona State University Police traced a threat made online to a 12-year-old Canadian boy on Tuesday.

In a release, ASU Police said Canadian authorities contacted the boy, who apologized for his actions and any disruptions. He is unlikely to be charged.

ASU Police investigated the threat Monday morning, but called it “unsubstantiated.”

The department reported that though the threat didn’t appear credible, “we encourage members of the campus community to always be observant and report any suspicious activity to ASU Police or the LiveSafe app,” on Facebook.

Reports of campus buildings being locked or evacuated were false, university police said early in the afternoon. But police said they would increase their presence at the main campus.

The threat was posted anonymously Sunday afternoon, insinuating a Monday shooting, reported the campus newspaper, the State Press.
