PHOENIX — A Florida-based company has been picked by the Arizona Department of Corrections to manage the state prison in Kingman.

DOC officials announced Tuesday that the GEO Group will take full operational control of the prison Dec. 1 and assume the contract of Centerville, Utah-based Management and Training Corp.

After several inmate riots in early July at the prison, Gov. Doug Ducey announced the state was severing its long-term contract with MTC.

Nearly $2 million in damages was done to windows, electrical systems, plumbing and security equipment in two units.

DOC officials say repairs of the Cerbat Unit are scheduled to be completed by Saturday and the Hualapai Unit is scheduled to be repaired by Jan. 15.

They say MTC has a statutory responsibility to complete repairs and return the facility to operating condition.
