Following Boston, security level high for Pat’s Run

TEMPE, Ariz. — More than 30,000 people took part in the 9th annual Pat’s Run at Arizona State University.

The 4.2 mile run is in honor of former ASU football player Pat Tillman, who was killed in battle in Afghanistan after he walked away from the NFL to serve in the military.

Hundreds of uniform and plain clothed cops from several Valley agencies were there along with tactical units. Police bomb dogs checked out cars.

Michael Pooley with Tempe Police said they received no credible threats prior to the run but after Boston they were taking no chances.

“We’re bringing out everything we have,” Pooley said. “All the manpower we need.”

Runner Shannon Moore of Yuma said she had no worries about making this event.

“We are Americans,” Moore said. “We come together and get through it.”
