UofA expert calls for more attention to water management

UofA expert feels that fresh water is in great danger, and technology may hold the key to solving the problem.

Climate change was one of the subjects that Pope Francis talked about during his visit to Washington on Thursday.

The Pope told a joint session of Congress that world leaders need to talk about environmental challenges like climate change.

“It’s human roots concern and affect us all,” the Pope said.

But the Director of the University of Arizona’s Center for Applied Nanobioscience and Medicine thinks they should also be talking about water.

“Water is disappearing from the planet, and we think the management of the resources is very important,” said Dr. Frederic Zenhausern.

He said that fresh water is in great danger, and technology may hold the key to solving the problem. “Maybe new technology that can really combine solar energy and those kind of nanotechnologies that can be used for water treatment in remote places,” Zenhausern said.

He said that increased regulatory standards and more affordable water quality monitoring methods could help with the management of water resources.
