Tempe, Ariz. police searching for suspect in connection to several vehicle fires

PHOENIX — Police in Tempe, Arizona, are asking the public to come forth with any information in connection to multiple vehicle fires that have occurred in the recent months.

Tempe Police Public Information Officer Molly Enright said there have been seven vehicle fires in Tempe since Aug. 15, four of which happened on Sept. 11.

Enright said all the fires have occurred along east Broadway Road between McClintock Drive and Price Road.

The following are the dates and blocks where the vehicle arson occurred:

• Aug. 15 – 2000 E. Broadway Road
• Sept. 8 – 1900 S. River Drive
• Sept. 11 – 1700 S. Price Road
• Sept. 11 – 1900 S. Shannon Drive
• Sept. 11 – 2000 E. Broadway Road
• Sept. 11 – 2100 E. Broadway Road
• Sept. 13 – 1900 E. Palmcroft Drive

Although no injuries have been reported from the fires, Enright said all the vehicles have been parked near single-family homes, apartment complexes or businesses where someone could have been seriously injured.

Police have reason to believe that the incidents that occurred on Sept. 11 and 13 are linked to the same suspect and are investigating the Aug. 15 and Sept. 8 incidents.

She said they typically occur in the late evening or early morning hours when there is typically less people around to witness them.

Police are encouraging citizens to consider parking their vehicle in a garage and to keep porch or security lights on during the nighttime.
