PHOENIX — After a dismal jobs report last week, the Valley appears to be bucking the national trend as more employers will be hiring from October through December.

Manpower, a staffing resources company, surveyed 140 Valley employers and almost 25 percent plan to hire in the final three months of the year, putting the Valley at No. 3 in the nation.

“We seem to be seeing some good trends and some recovery,” said Frank Armendariz with Manpower.

Armendariz said another positive gleaned from the survey is that 66 percent of the employers expect to maintain current staffing levels.

“That’s always a critical indicator as well, because when employers are forecasting to maintain levels, that means even if they lose an employee they’re going to replace that spot,” he said.

Armendariz said people out of work should start networking now, rather than waiting for the job to be posted.

“Make sure they keep the resume fresh and make sure they’re still active. Do some volunteer work and continue training and keeping the skills they have fresh and relevant,” he recommended.
