After rain, Valley blanketed by haze

PHOENIX — It’s a bad morning for people with asthma or allergies, with combination of dust and pollution covering Valley skies Wednesday morning, on the heels of overnight rain.

Ken Waters with the National Weather Service said it could be several hours before the air clears.

“An inversion set in after last night’s rain, cooling on the surface trapped particulates.”

People with respiratory issues should stay indoors as much as possible, it’s recommended.

Deborah Ostreicher with Sky Harbor Airport said the takeoffs are not being affected but the dust cloud is delaying a handful of incoming flights by about 10-20 minutes.

“Normally we see this in the afternoon during the summer, it’s unusual to see it in the morning.”

After eight straight nights of at least 90 degrees, Tuesday night’s temperatures fell below that. There is a possibility of another storm before over the next couple of days.

The storm knocked out power mostly in central and north Phoenix and as of early Wednesday morning less than 100 were waiting for service to return.

SRP spokesman Scott Harelson said about 2,000 were affected Tuesday night for a couple of hours. Around 2,500 APS customers lost power for few hours.
