Today is a pretty big day in American history.

We all know dates like July 4, when the Declaration of Independence was announced. But do you know the details behind August 10?

That was when the British found out about the aforementioned document and that the situation in America was getting a little out of hand.

We all know how that turned out.

In today’s world, Thomas Jefferson likely would have sent a tweet telling those Brit overlords to get off his land, right before he sent an Instagramed photo of a delicious sandwich. George Washington probably would have put it on Facebook, maybe posting a picture of his dog chewing on the British flag.

Of course, the original news would have been sent by email, letting King George III know that the weekend barbeque was off and a rebellion was on.

Back then, it took five weeks for the British to get the news that the colonies were declaring themselves a separate country.

And you thought the NBC Olympic tape delay was bad.
