Arizona Cardinals report to Flagstaff training camp

PHOENIX – Arizona Cardinals players reported to training camp in Flagstaff on Tuesday and will practice for the first time on Wednesday.

The Cardinals are coming off of an 8-8 season and Arizona Sports 620’s Paul Calvisi said there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the team this year. It all starts at the quarterback position, with a full-blown competition expected between Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. But this isn’t new situation for the team.

“Think back to when Matt Leinart was the starter going into 2008 and Kurt Warner won the job,” said Calvisi. “And the rest is history. [Head coach] Ken Whisenhunt has done this before and he’s very confident by the end of camp he will know who the guy is going to be.”

Calvisi said the San Francisco 49ers had an incredible season last year and remain the team to beat in the division, but overall the NFC West is much improved.

“Seahawks are improved with Matt Flynn at quarterback,” he said. “The Rams are much better and they have a brand new head coach in Jeff Fisher. It’s going to be a very competitive division.”
