PHOENIX — Right now medical-marijuana patients can grow their own in Arizona but that will end in a matter of weeks. And that worries some of them.

Once Arizona’s medical-marijuana dispensaries go into operation, patients who live within 25 miles of a dispensary won’t be able to grow their own anymore.

“Gonna be devastating to the community,” said a man who identified himself only as Scott.

Scott said he deals with severe pain as a result of motorcycle injuries. Driving a mile much less 25 miles is difficult and he will fight the rule.

“We have to make a stand.”

Scott has invested about $5,000 to grow his own medical marijuana. That goes up in smoke, so to speak.

“The only way I would be able to get that back is to continue to grow. But when this 25-mile rule comes into play it is going to be illegal for us to then grow.”
