Police: Man stabs Sheriff’s vehicle because he ‘hates the police’

PHOENIX — A 20-year-old male suspect was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stabbing a Maricopa County Sheriff’s vehicle, according to a recent press release.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Zachary Jacobson after he allegedly targeted and stabbed a fully-marked Sheriff’s vehicle in Fountain Hills, Arizona.

When asked why he did it, Jacobson allegedly said it was because he “hates the police” and wanted to send a message, according to the press release.

A volunteer Sheriff’s posseman spotted Jacobson jumping on the hood of the vehicle, holding a large butcher knife with an 8-inch blade, police said. Possemen then ordered him at gunpoint to drop the knife, at which point he allegedly stabbed the hood of the vehicle.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Jacobson’s actions demonstrate tension between the public and law enforcement, but commended his deputies for showing restraint and utilizing their training during this situation.

“This is a scary time for all law enforcement,” he said. “We are dealing with a war on cops, people are randomly shooting our law enforcement officials, then this guy targets a fully marked Sheriff’s vehicle to send a message.”

No one was injured and no shots were fired in the incident. Jacobson will be booked into 4th Avenue Jail on criminal damage charges, according to the press release.
