One dead after shooting involving Phoenix police officer

PHOENIX — Authorities said one person was killed Tuesday in a shooting involving a police officer at a Phoenix home.

Officers from the Phoenix Police Fugitive Apprehension Detail were serving a felony drug warrant on a man they knew to be in a home at 3600 W. Berkeley Rd. Cops say the 45-year-old white male pointed a weapon at them when they saw him through a window in the home.

The man would only show one hand, but eventually did show the other hand in which he held a dark object.

“When the subject presented the weapon, it was a deadly force situation, so the officers then responded,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis.

Lewis said one police officer fired an unknown amount of shots. Once they entered the home, they confirmed the suspect was deceased. A handgun was recovered near the body.

No officers were injured during the incident, and no one else was at home at the time.

The investigation will continue into the night with minor traffic restrictions in the neighborhood.
