Republican Mark Lamb moved ahead of Democrat Elizabeth Lee as more results were tallied in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District race.

Lee held a surprising lead of 4 percentage points in the GOP stronghold after initial results were released on Election Day.

But Lamb took the lead as more votes were tabulated and held a 51% to 48.8% advantage as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The open seat covers much of the East Valley and parts of Pinal County, including Queen Creek and Apache Junction. Republican Rep. Andy Biggs, who has held the seat since 2017, ran for governor instead of seeking reelection.

Lamb, a former Pinal County sheriff, won his primary with Trump’s endorsement despite allegations of threats, sexting and racist comments. Lamb denied the allegations.

Lamb also bought $3 million in property in Tennessee, where he started a ranch business.

Lee, a nurse who switched her registration from Republican in 2018, ran as a progressive. She backed Medicare for All and called for limits on data centers.

Mark Lamb skips general election debate and avoided local media

Lamb skipped the only general election debate, and Lee turned one of his own lines against him.

“If those other folks aren’t here tonight, you can’t expect them to show up for you in D.C.,” Lee said, quoting what Lamb said when he debated alone in his 2024 U.S. Senate primary.

Lamb appeared on partisan podcasts but avoided journalist interviews throughout the campaign.

Lamb raised about $1.8 million for his campaign, nearly five times Lee’s $376,000, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Outside groups spent less than $11,000 in the race.

It is time to move out of this district. If this Lamb is who you want to represent you then there is no hope for this part of town.

Look at his history, can anyone tell me why you would vote for this pretend cowboy?

My district too. They’d elect a Mass Murderer (R).

If Lamb ultimately prevails what’s the over/under for how long before his first scandal?
