The Original Tavern opening in North Phoenix in 2027

Square One Concepts, the restaurant group known for operating Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, Bourbon & Bones and Wasted Grain, is once again expanding in the Valley.

The Original Tavern is coming to the High Street at City North shopping district, near Deer Valley Road and 56th Street, in 2027.

The tavern aims to bring a friendly neighborhood culture where all can gather for food, drinks and sports viewing in an indoor-outdoor setting, according to a press release. The project spanning more than 8,000 square feet will feature a scratch kitchen created for contemporary palates, a robust happy hour, a golf simulator, multiple TV screens and an LED video wall.

It will take inspiration from its sister concept, The Original Arcadia Tavern, which recently replaced Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers in Phoenix’s Arcadia area.

“We’ve created an elevated yet comfortable environment where scratch-made food, genuine hospitality and an unparalleled sports-viewing experience come together under one roof,” Square One Concepts CEO and founder S. Barrett Rinzler said. “Whether you’re joining us for a great meal with family, meeting friends for happy hour inside or on our spacious patio or coming in to watch the big game on our huge LED wall, The Original Tavern offers the quality, energetic atmosphere you want from a neighborhood gathering place — without the pretense.”

The menu will feature shareable appetizers, such as steak tips and grilled asparagus, along with a selection of Midwest-style pizzas and smash burgers. Entree options will include Southern fried chicken, grilled salmon, baby back ribs and a filet. Prime rib dinners will also be available Friday through Sunday.

High Street at City North already features an upscale collection of restaurants, retail, residential, hospitality and entertainment, and The Original Tavern will be its newest addition. The space it will occupy was previously home to Mellow Mushroom, a pizza restaurant.
