Republican Jay Feely and Democrat Amish Shah are offering different approaches to issues like data centers and affordability as they compete for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District seat.

Their first and only debate is Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

Feely, a former NFL kicker, supports data centers as necessary for competing with China in artificial intelligence. Speaking on “The Sean Spicer Show,” he said the facilities should be built outside neighborhoods and use recycled water to limit demand on local supplies.

He touts his close relationship with President Donald Trump.

Shah, an emergency physician and former state lawmaker, pledges on his campaign website to oppose data centers in the district, citing concerns about Arizona’s water supply.

The candidates also differ on how to lower household costs.

Feely’s campaign calls for expanding Trump-era tax cuts, reducing regulations and increasing domestic energy production. Shah advocates rolling back tariffs imposed by Trump, arguing they raise costs for families and businesses.

Healthcare is another focus for Shah, who promises to protect Medicare and reverse Medicaid cuts. Feely emphasizes border security, pledging to support additional border wall construction and deportations of violent offenders.
